The latest installment in our ongoing Microdose monthly music series comes from Milly, a rock band from Los Angeles fronted by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Brendan Dyer. Their sound melds together elements of classic shoegaze, slowcore, and lo-fi indie rock, coalescing into an intense, singular musical impression.

Milly’s new single “Crazy Horse” is out now. In contrast to the slow motion landslide of their last single “Talking Secret,” “Crazy Horse” is a more introspective, sentimental affair. A strange, woozy drum machine beat provides the foundation for layers of acoustic guitar and piano that swirl around Dyer’s reflective vocal delivery. The song retains that signature Milly creep while unveiling an emotional earnestness that recalls Built To Spill and Yo La Tengo in their most vulnerable moments. Listen to “Crazy Horse” now.

Paste Magazine premiered the “Crazy Horse” music video on Wednesday. Lizzie Manno of Paste describes the song as “deliberately rumpled, opening with slo-mo programmed beats and yearning vocals that drag their feet. Though submerged in a thick sonic mud, ‘Crazy Horse’ embodies the mountain-moving feeling from the gaze of a love interest, and it cuts to the heart of a young romance that could never be.”

We are also very excited to announce that Milly will be supporting Swervedriver on their US tour this fall. All dates below:
