Slothrust have premiered another new single from their forthcoming album The Pact. Their newest song, entitled “Birthday Cake,” premiered yesterday on Consequence Of Sound. Consequence describes the single aptly, stating “Against jaunty acoustic strums, frontwoman Leah Wellbaum juxtaposes the helplessness we feel as adults with the freewheeling rowdiness of a child’s birthday party. The band’s signature crunch rolls in as she adopts the sneering swagger of a kid unconcerned with consequences.”

As part of Consequence’s “Origins” series, the premiere is accompanied by a discussion with Slothrust’s Leah Wellbaum in which she explores the inspirations and influences behind the song, which run the gamut from childhood birthday parties to PJ Harvey.
