Silversun Pickups will join Muse for close to two months of touring throughout North America this March and April. The tour begins in Atlanta on February 27th, and works its way through Canada and the Midwest before ending on the West Coast in early April. For a list of dates, head to the Dangerbird tours page. Friday Morning Quarterback (FMQB – a radio and music industry trade publication) selected Silversun Pickups Swoon as the Album of the Year for 2009, based on votes from the reporting panel. FMQB’s announcement can be read here.

Nominations for the 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards were announced tonight, and we’re proud to report that Silversun Pickups are up for Best New Artist! Silversun Pickups will headline LA Weekly‘s first-ever LA 101 event on November 3 at the Gibson Amphitheatre, with two stages brought to you by the cherished local paper and KROQ. The LA-band will be joined by The Dandy Warhols and Matt & Kim on the main stage, with an additional act to be announced in the coming weeks. The secondary KROQ Locals Only Stage will be located outside and feature a select line-up from local acts, also to be announced. In addition to offering area fans great music, LA 101 offers a cultural lesson on LA’s finest in food, arts and entertainment. 25 cents from every ticket benefits the Friends of the LA River charity.

It’s been 11 years since an independent artist ranked #1 on Billboard’s Hot Modern Rock Songs chart (Everlast’s “What It’s Like” hit #1 in December 1998) and today, Silversun Pickups are the proud title-holders. Lead single “Panic Switch,” from Swoon, has impressively jumped over tracks from Linkin Park and Green Day, which were also in the running. This is truly a triumphant day for Dangerbird and the band, as only three songs by artists on independently distributed labels have reached this position: The Offspring’s “Come Out And Play (Keep ‘Em Separated)” [#1, July 1994], the aforementioned Everlast, and now Silversun Pickups this week.

As co-founder of Dangerbird Records, Jeff Castelaz appreciates the significance of infiltrating a predominantly major label-ruled chart. “’Panic Switch’ hitting number one proves that the moving parts of the rock and roll experience are still in good working order: great band, great song, great listener response,” he says.

The quartet is currently making their way across Europe and will return in August for festival appearances, as well as a string of newly announced tour dates.

Silversun Pickups have reached the #2 spot on Billboard’s Hot Modern Rock Songs chart with lead single “Panic Switch.” Since 1994, only three songs by artists on independent labels have reached the chart’s top two spots. This Thursday, April 30, Silversun Pickups and Eulogies will perform at a very special benefit for Pablo Castelaz and The Pablove Foundation, at the Echoplex in Los Angeles. Tickets are on sale now for $25 via TicketWeb. All proceeds will directly benefit The Pablove Foundation (pablove.org), named after Pablo Castelaz, the five-year-old son of Dangerbird Records co-founder Jeff Castelaz and his wife Jo Ann Thrailkill.

On May 17, 2008, Pablo was diagnosed with bilateral Wilms’ Tumor, a rare form of children’s cancer, and has been receiving treatment at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (childrenshospitalla.org).

The Pablove Foundation supports cancer research and cancer patient play activities, music and arts programs. Recently, The Pablove Foundation funded a year of evening and weekend hours in the play room on the fourth floor soft tumor units at CHLA. These ‘units’ are actually an entire floor of the hospital, which is filled with brave, beautiful children at any time of the year. This play room brings immeasurable joy to the heart of a child whose life has been turned upside down in the face of a life-threatening disease and whose world has temporarily been reduced to a small hospital room.

The Pablove Foundation also plans to contribute to cancer research and treatment at CHLA, including the efforts of CHLA’s Saban Research Institute, one of the top cancer research facilities in the United States.

This extraordinary evening will offer select items for sale to help commemorate the night and give back to the above noted charities. In addition to an exclusive, limited edition t-shirt, Give. Listen. Help. Volume 5, will be available for purchase. The two-disc benefit compilation CD was released earlier this year by Filter and Urban Outfitters and features an impressive collection of unique material from some of today’s most recognizable artists including Radiohead, Bloc Party, Oasis, as well as the Dangerbird Records roster. After 14 months of writing and recording, Silversun Pickups have wrapped their sophomore album Swoon. It will be released in US and Canada on April 14 (UK April 13). SSPU’s re-entry to the live stage will take place at the Coachella festival Friday, April 17 (set time tbd). With the help of Carnavas producer Dave Cooley and mixer Tony Hoffer, the band churned out an album that frontman Brian Aubert says “sounds like a nervous breakdown.” We agree. Can’t wait for you to have yours….

Dangerbird is taking over the newly minted Space 15 Twenty in Hollywood next Tuesday (16 DEC) for a benefit night in honor of The Pablove Foundation, supporting pediatric cancer research at Childrens Hospital LA. The evening will include live sets from Eulogies, The One AM Radio and Sara Lov, along with DJ sets by Silversun Pickups, Jimmy Tamborello (Postal Service, Dntel) and Daedelus. The event is free and all ages, and begins at 6pm. Space 15 Twenty is located at: 1520 N. Cahuenga Blvd in Hollywood…

Silversun Pickups is currently tucked away in a Los Angeles studio working hard on the follow up to Carnavas, titled Swoon and scheduled for release in early 2009. Dave Cooley, the man behind the soundboard for Carnavas, was once again the chosen one to produce. Silversun Pickups frontman Brian Aubert on the reunion: “He’s a stronger producer now because of the records he’s done since we worked with him on Carnavas. And as far as experimenting with sounds and everything, he’s just as great as ever.”

The band will take a break away from the studio to perform at Austin City Limits on Sunday, September 28.

There are two Chevrolet ads airing during the Olympics featuring Dangerbird music. The first is Silversun Pickups “Lazy Eye (Jason Bentley remix)” in a 2008 Chevy Malibu ad, while Sea Wolf’s “You’re A Wolf” is featured in a Malibu Hybrid ad…
